Over the past few months the GeekTools Whois Proxy has been used to
"scrape" data from various whois servers by automated processes. In
an effort to keep the system from being overloaded and to thwart
these automated processes we have had to enact these new measures.
We want to block these automated processes because some registrars block the whois
proxy if they suspect scraping.
In order to use the proxy you must now enter the randomly generated
key in addition to your query. Ignore the lines in the key display;
they are there to help prevent non-human detection of the key
characters. The key is not case sensitive. At this time the standard
(port 43) whois server does not require this code.
The code is four characters consisting of the letters A through Z.
The images are in JPEG form so most modern browsers should be able
to handle them.
If you have a problem with this new addition, we will happily
refund your money. ;-)
